No significant provision for cycling on the new Ely Southern bypass

New footbridge over the river and railway, alongside the new Ely Southern Bypass. Cyclists Dismount signs at each end totally unnecessary :-(

I'm confused by this sign - it says beware of lorries pulling out, but seems to show a lorry pulling in. What's needed are signs telling drivers to look out for cyclists, not the other way round.

The route sign just means Turn Right on to the Road, I think

Priority over this side road is a welcome upgrade. It was a Sunday when I rode along it so I don't know how often it's obeyed, but the red sign suggests it's something drivers aren't used to.

A good example of how useless barriers like this are. Everyone just skirts around it. How much did this barrier cost, and who paid for it?

Zigzag ramp from Penicuik Drive down to Myreside Drive. Another useful path added to new estate. Also, helps avoid Shettleston Road.

Shared path to Rigby Gardens, part of traffic-free route through new housing. Could do with more drop kerbs but paths are useful to avoid Shettleston Road.

Barriers too close and no drop kerb. Worn grass shows desire line. A bit of a shame but ramp is still useful to link Rigby Street to Rigby Crescent and avoid traffic on Shettleston Road.

No Cycling sign above Vallorcine - it seems a random location, but it's more or less where the path crosses into France.

The café/pub at the Museum of Technology on Riverside, Cambridge is a great place to watch endless people on bikes passing by. Katrina counted 100 in five minutes and sixteen seconds.

This bridge could be part of the generally ok cycle routes in this area, but it needs a more gradual slope so the steps can be deleted. This is also a barrier to disabled travel.

The cycleway here is narrow and the surface poor, but this isn't such a bad thing - go too fast here and you risk a head-on collision with another cyclist. I think the overgrowth needs cutting back though.

A problem many will be familiar with - overgrowth blocking the light from a streetlight. These things are often forgotten about by councils because they don't really affect motorists, but dark paths at night is a serious safety concern for ... [more]

The canal towpath near this point has now been given a much improved sealed surface, so it's a shame that this point of access has been completely untouched.
